Tuesday was our first day with Time 4 Learning. I spent a lot of time over the Summer in Parent Mode, viewing the lessons, supported practices, and quizzes. It's super kid-friendly and I was excited to see how the girls liked it.
I pulled a few pages from their workbooks so that they'd have something to work on independently as I took turns sitting with them for T4L. It worked well! Definitely not something we'd do everyday, though.
This was at 8 am- they were fully engaged! I allowed them to choose the order for completing their assignments, which they loved. I was available for questions, but tried not to hover too much. I really wanted to observe them; their learning style, how long they could work before getting antsy, which subjects they struggled with, etc.
As we were wrapping up, a friend texted about a nature study group at Alum Springs that morning. She picked up the big girls and took them. They absolutely loved wading around, exploring, and sketching in their journals. Then we all met at the pool :) Just one of the many reasons I'm already loving home school- the freedom!
On Wednesday, here's where it gets interesting; we all slept in! We were absolutely not ready to do school at 8:00. Not even at 9:00.
So I set Alexa for 9:45. The girls could lounge around, watch TV, and play until it was time to get ready. After they brushed their teeth, brushed their hair and got dressed, they were ready at the table. I'm learning to let go...we don't have to have a set start time. Yesterday we were up early, so we started early. I had it set in my brain (and in my planner!) that we'd start and end at certain times each day, and that will probably be true once Annie starts preschool next week. Right now I'm learning to be flexible.
We took off early on Thursday and just had a fun girls morning- breakfast, shopping, pedi, library, & milkshakes. No school! We made up for it on Friday though, with them doubling up on their assignments with T4L. As they were finishing up, the doorbell rang; it was the neighborhood kids wanting to play on the last Friday of Summer (great timing!)
Overall it was a great first week. My main goal was to get them comfortable with T4L, and get some sort of an understanding on what this process was going to look like. I also got great feedback from the girls- what they liked, what they thought could be better. I think it will take awhile to find our groove, but that's ok- we've got time :)

I had planned on taking them to Mathnasium after the pool, but clearly they were wiped. |
