First Day of CC!

Whew! Day one, done! And it was pretty great :) Our group doesn't meet until 9:15, so we had plenty of time to sleep in, play, eat breakfast, and get ready. Definitely different from our 7 am mad dash out the door! I am so glad we got to visit a class last year so that we knew what to expect. Everyone at CC was so warm and welcoming. We mingled around as tutors were setting up tables and chairs and materials. We met as a whole group for Opening, then divided up into our classes. I got to stay with Annie, but I was able to check on the big girls a few of times. Throughout the day I kept thinking about how I could be at school, sitting in meetings or getting my classroom ready. My teacher heart REALLY loves this time of year (well, not so much the meetings! #hatethose) I miss that back to school fun! But then I look at these faces and know that I am where I need to be! We all ate lunch together and they got to play outside. At 1:00 Audrey and I had our Essen

Blended Learning: What We're Doing

Usually the first thing people ask after they find out that we're homeschooling is, "What curriculum are you using?" It's a valid question, but it's so hard to answer because we're doing a few different things! Classical Conversations I heard about this program from a good friend. She joined this co-op with her daughters and spent a lot of time with me over Winter break explaining how it worked. You're basically creating "pegs" in your child's brain upon which to build. It only meets once a week and I get to decide, as the teacher, what we delve deeper into. It covers history (I like the timeline!), science, grammar, Latin, geography, and math. There's a focus on memory work, but it also brings in public speaking and the arts.  I was not looking for a faith-based group; we are a secular family. While this program is faith based, I am told that we can take and leave what we want. I'm curious to see if the girls take interest

It's that time of Summer...

When we come back from the beach I go into full Teacher-mode...planning, Pinning, & perusing school supplies. This year is definitely different. I'm still doing those things, just on a much smaller scale. MUCH. And I've gotta say, I feel so good. So EXCITED. Confident that this is the right path for our girls. My class is going to be AMAZING this year ;)
