Whew! Day one, done! And it was pretty great :)
Our group doesn't meet until 9:15, so we had plenty of time to sleep in, play, eat breakfast, and get ready. Definitely different from our 7 am mad dash out the door!
I am so glad we got to visit a class last year so that we knew what to expect. Everyone at CC was so warm and welcoming. We mingled around as tutors were setting up tables and chairs and materials. We met as a whole group for Opening, then divided up into our classes. I got to stay with Annie, but I was able to check on the big girls a few of times.
As we were leaving, I asked the girls about their day. They were so enthusiastic! You'd have thought we just finished a day at King's Dominion. I had to stop and take their picture to remember this moment.
We crashed pretty early! The director texted me that night, just to say how happy she was to have the girls and to say that she hoped we had a great first day. My mama heart is happy :)

Throughout the day I kept thinking about how I could be at school, sitting in meetings or getting my classroom ready. My teacher heart REALLY loves this time of year (well, not so much the meetings! #hatethose) I miss that back to school fun! But then I look at these faces and know that I am where I need to be!
We all ate lunch together and they got to play outside. At 1:00 Audrey and I had our Essentials class (language arts, math, writing.) Abby and Annie got to play with the other kids. Essentials is pretty intense. It's 45 minutes per subject, and it does go by pretty fast. Audrey handled it beautifully- my old brain is re-learning this stuff and it's exhausting lol.
