Yesterday I woke up to the sound of rain. It was a cold and dreary Friday. The perfect day to stay home. Annie did not go to school. We didn't do school (well, Audrey worked on her Faces of History paper.) We did things around the house (some Spring cleaning, some laundry, some cooking.) We practiced piano, played with Play-Doh, and watched TV. Soccer was cancelled. I let Audrey skip ballet. I kept thinking how lucky we were to just take this day to relax, especially with our busy weekend coming up. Freedom like this is one of my favorite things about our homeschooling journey. We're not taking a full week off for Spring Break, so a day off here and there is a nice alternative. Especially days where we can snuggle in our PJs.  

We are enjoying the extra daylight and warmer temps; I just love this time of year! The girls have been doing some incredible things over the past few weeks. It's amazing what limiting screen time + beautiful weather will inspire! They created a library in our basement guestroom; they gathered a bunch of books and organized them by genre. They created a check out system on Google Drive complete with names and photos (of neighborhood kids!) Audrey has been designing miniature rooms. They are so cute! She also loves sketching out fashion designs.   Abby has been writing in her diary a lot lately, just before she goes to bed. She's just the cutest. I love seeing her writing evolve. Honestly, we don't do much writing on a day to day basis. We'll have to make more of an effort to incorporate that next year. A couple weeks ago they set up a snack stand with the neighborhood friends; all for charity! All the adults who drove by were SO supportive! It was just a won...

The winter slump is real, even in the home school world. BUT, being able to stay home makes it bearable! At the beginning of February we took a trip to Wintergreen. It was so fun, especially since we had our besties with us. LOVE our people. Tubing was our favorite! Except Abby's. Dinner at Devil's Backbone was #yum We love going to CC each week. Our community is wonderful. It's safe to say that art and science are the faves! I'm so proud of Annie; we paired up with another group of older kiddos for Memory Work and she constantly volunteers to sing the songs by herself (although technically I help her.) I love her enthusiasm and bravery! Admittedly, we haven't done much with memory work on our own throughout the week. I'm giving us a lot of grace with this being our first year.
